King No Crown - Documentary
A look behind the curtain into the life of independent hip-hop MC and producer Blueprint (Rhymesayers Entertainment) reveals the ups and downs of being a successful but unsung artist during the release of his album, King No Crown.
Al Shepard, known by his stage name Blueprint, is an African-American rapper, record producer, writer, and filmmaker. He began his career in 1999 with the Up to Speed EP release of his crew Greenhouse Effect and the establishment of his independent record label Weightless Recordings based out of Columbus, OH. Since then has released three solo albums on his imprint and five on independent powerhouse Rhymesayers Entertainment (Warner Dist). He resigned from his job as a computer analyst in 2002 to pursue his art and has been a full-time artist ever since. Since then, he has toured the united states 14 times, Canada 8 times, and Europe three times. After his public decision to stop drinking in 2010, Shepard decided to pick up photography as a hobby and from there the seeds of filmmaking were planted. Less than a year after picking up the camera he was directing music videos for other independent artists and creating promotional video campaigns for their albums. His interest in documentary filmmaking developed, until he had the confidence to start work on his first feature-length film, a documentary called King No Crown, which is now in post-production and scheduled for a 2017 release.
